Some photos from tonight’s shoot…

Tonight I was fortunate to meet Francisca (thanks Marcelo!) for a bit of a shoot for her portfolio. This was an interesting experience for me, Having not used the elinchrom lights for anthing meaningful since getting them, But it was a great evening and many great shots were taken. :)

A quick rundown on the setup - 2x elinchrom 500 heads, one 90×90 softbox with internal diffuser for main light camera right, one 36″ black/white brolly for fill camera left, 2 580ex2 speedlights to blow out the BG. All triggered with elinchrom skyports. Camera is a Canon 1d mk3 and only used one lens on this shoot EF 85 1.2L. And what a lens! The sharpness is simply out of this world. I thought my 24-70L was sharp when stopped down but this just doesn’t compare :D

When you’re not around…

What does your gear get up to when you’re not around?? :D

Ok… I was bored as hell.. Borrowed an 85L off a good friend and wanted to take a photo. Lacking in creativity this is the best I could come up with in 3 minutes of my time. Sharp is an understatement!

Evonats all done for another year…

And what an interesting weekend it’s been.. One photographer trying to ge themselves run down by cars in the circuit. Issues with track access for photographers promoting the event. Sometimes you win sometimes you loose I guess. Either way we were able to get the shots we needed to produce a successful article.

Quickest time @ Wakefield Park for the weekend went to Martin Notaras with a 1.03.076. 3 seconds quicker than his best (and event best) last year! Well done Marty :D

A wrap of the hillclimb times will be posted tomorrow. And you can find a full review the event in Fast Fours in approx. 3 months time too!

Evonats - Day 1 done!

End of day one at Ralliart Evonats 2008 has seen some tight times and close battles faught.
We arrived in Goulburn at 7.30am only to discover light rain and 50kmh wind gusts.. Not the best weather for shooting. In the back of our minds was all previous evonats and evo vs sti events where there had been periods of rain at each event.

By 10.30am the sun had made it’s way through the cloud cover and the rain had dissapeared. The racing line dried and the battle was starting to really heat up.

By 3pm Michael and I decided that we had gathered enough photos and information to put into the article so we set off for the pavillion hotel in Canberra where we are staying for the night. Photo of office attached lolz :D

Now it’s beer time!!!!111

EvoNats upon us!

It’s that time of the year again when the super crazy Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution owners get together in the southern highlands of NSW and ACT for a weekend of non stop action on and even off the track :D

This Saturday begins nice and early at Goulburn’s Wakefield Park Raceway just outside the town’s centre. After the newbs have been through their familiarisation of the track it’s non stop till around 3pm where all evo’s present are assembled on the interior paddock of the track for a photoshoot. Organizers expect over 50 cars to be on display for the shoot!

Directly following the photoshot is the Ralliart Medal session. This is the competitive part of the day where each driver is timed over a number of laps on both wakefield park circuit and Fairbairn Park hillclimb and the driver with the least difference in laptimes wins the trophy. Consistency is the key, doesn’t matter if you’re quick or slow, so long as you’re consistent.

Saturday night dinner function is held at The Lobby just outside of old parliment house. Some presentations will be made, but most importantly many beers and war stories of the days racing will be told :D

Sunday the racers will head to Fairbairn Park Hillclimb, just outside of the airport for a day’s racing against the clock. Drivers will go through a breifing and be allowed to walk the track to familiarize themselves. Then it’s on to racing. This is arguably the best part of the weekend, set yourself a time on the tight and twisty track and push yourself further with every lap. A small presentation will follow then off to the nearst pub for a self cooked steak and a beer then on the road to wherever you came from.

Couldn’t think of a better way to spend a weekend really :D

Wedding & Honeymoon all done!

Yesterday evening I stepped in off a Jetstar plane from Hamilton Island after being on a week long honeymoon holiday. We had a great time and really didn’t want to come home but I guess we had to.

Our wedding was on the 17th of October at Loxley in Kurrajong/bellbird hill NSW. A great place to get married, it has everything all in the one place. Food was unbelieveable and their hospitality was well above what we expected. http://www.loxleyonbellbirdhill.com.au

How does a photographer choose a wedding photographer? Hard decision if you don’t already know someone in the biz. Luckily i’d come across Gavin Cato through a car club a few years ago. Gavin went beyond the call with the package he put together for Emma and I and we are blown away with what he’s done for us.Some photos posted at http://www.catoandpade.com.au (username: 171008. PW: KE)

Anyway, back to Hamilton Island… So it’s freaking expensive! Thank god we took extra money with us. Daily telegraph is $3, Case of becks cost me $85 and 10mins on a jetski was rediculous! We found a good variety od things to keep up occupied on the island. Cocktails at the swim-up bar, snorkeling at chalkies beach, footy on whitehaven beach, cocktails at sunset on one tree hill… and drooling on the superyachts in the marina. The best bit though was racing around the island on the buggies!! hahaha

Here are some photos from the holiday. All with canon 1d3 and most with canon 24-70L lens. Enjoy!
